LSSS 205 LSSS 205 Future
Center
.
What did you learn from the
Future Center trip that you didn’t know before?
·
I learnt that the Future Center is a non- profit
organization which specializes in the education and rehabilitation of
individuals with special needs. And that it is committed to provide these
people with the necessary knowledge and skills to enable them to realize their
full potential in a safe, caring environment.
2.
What did you get out of the
visit personally?
Actually
I was appalled by what I saw. I didn’t realize that I am so fortunate with all
the blessings I have before I met them. One should thank Al-Mighty Allah for
all His gifts and start thinking seriously how to help the less fortunate ones!
3.
Why is it valuable for
students studying cultural diversity to visit the Future Center?
A visit to such centers is really
valuable for students studying cultural diversity as it enables them to witness
practical cultural diversity in reality as a living fact. It is a life concept
of dissimilarity and variety of the creation of Al-Mighty Allah for some sort
of wisdom that we can’t comprehend.
4.
What are you gaining from
this course?
Honestly,
this course has opened my eyes to the fact that all people, coming from different
walks of life, descending from various origins and roots, having a wide range
of thoughts, beliefs, religions, morals, ethnics and ethics are all human
beings that should be respected as they all contribute to humanity.
5.
What is the value of
diversity?
The
value of diversity lies in learning and comprehending how variations in culture
and background would affect our life in general. In all aspects, it would help
us avoid a narrow focus upon cultural differences alone. It helps us learn the skills
to negotiate effective communication, enhances awareness of one’s own attitudes
and sensitivity to issues of stereotyping, prejudice and racism.
6.
How did you see that value
demonstrated at the Future Center?
I saw
that value demonstrated at the Future Center by touching the lives of many
students and their families as some of those students have already joined
regular and mainstream education. It has prevailed teachers, parents and
volunteers who work together in an environment that is supportive and caring.
